Fasteddie. At the top of the page is a link that says "subscribe to topic". if you click on that it will email you when a reply has been added to that topic. Some features on this site will only work if you have 50 posts or more, but I don't believe that is a requirement to subscribe to a topic. Welcome and have fun!

The buyer emailed me and I gave him a whole bunch of info, including a page from Rick Snow's book about detecting FE counterfeits. Hopefully, he can get his money back.

Am I allowed to refer to an ebay item number on this forum?

ebay is a public domain, and as such information can be freely shared. Many topics on this forum start off with a link to an ebay item.

This is a great thread about counterfeits and social interaction. I'd be sick if I was that buyer. Seems to me the seller may have a few buddies out there rolling trades over causing such a buzz. I have one of those FE's found with a metal detector. Trust me, it needs blurry pictures lol. I'll bet its authentic. Certainly looks like its been under ground for 200 years. nlp

The buyer also bought another coin from same seller, a 1914-D Lincoln. Upon closer inspection, he's convinced that it's a fake too. He is reporting both to ebay. I'd be ticked too if I got scammed twice by the same seller. nlp - Why don't you have it authenticated by ANACS (NGC or PCGS may bodybag)? Could be worth a lot of money even in AG condition.

Right--that seller is basically DOA. Nobody should trust him again. Sorry...but twice--or even more?

He's only been caught twice. I'm sure he's pulled this alot more for how often he's doing it.

The 1909 s vdb looks authentic to me. Maybe the seller didn't know the FE was fake? I hope I hear how things turn out with this.
1sikevo,
If you hear any more about this from the buyer, let us know.

Are we talking about the same seller's 09-S VDB? I cannot tell either way from those pics, which may be intentional. As a bit of reference, here's the 4 genuine mintmark positions that help authenticate this coin:

The pictures remind me of the auction that I bought my 1909-S IHC. Call it dumb or just rolling the dice, I bought the coin, bad picture and all, because it was a good deal. The auction was ending and top bidder was only at 480 for a coin that looks EF-AU. I also knew that Paypal would refund my money if I could certify that it was fake.
