I think there is one listed in 1998 that looks similar, on Coins and Canada , deficient plating. but I haven't heard of one for this year. Looks a bit similar to me ,but

Leaving a penny in coke (and changing ever so often) will do the same thing .. I guess that it's acid as well.

Never tried the coke thing however I would imagine that in doing so it would take quite some time.

Not as long as you think. You'll notice damage in just a few days. We used to do experiments with coke and nails in public school; the nail was gone in about 2 weeks!
