So I came across this in a collection I picked up . . . sadly only AG-3 I think - maybe V-4 if I dream . . Never having one of these before I did not know about the varieties and am trying my best to identify. I think this is a narrow 9, low 9 variety but as to the double or triple punching I have no idea. I'm suspecting no double punches on this and am asking for other opinions. Seems like this is one of the more common varieties and not worth too much especially as AG-3.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts - 3 photos included - same coin just slightly different lighting.

I'm not familiar with 1859 varieties but could you get some photos of the reverse?

aghawk, your coin is a narrow 9. If you can provide full photos of the dated (reverse) side, we might be able to tell you which Haxby variety it is.

You can go to Dr. Haxby's website and search for clues yourself to which die pair it is. www.vickycents.com

Check the reverse of your coin for any die cracks through the maple leaves. If there are any, you can compare them to photographs in the "ID my coin by reverse markers" area of the website.

There's like about 45 thousand varieties in the 1859.

Well...maybe not that many but, you know what I mean.

Looks like a narrow nine, not sure about the punches, looks like a G-04

It's just a normal narrow 9. There are well over 200 varieties of the '59, most worth just the same as a vanilla coin. The reverse is the dates side.
