With that much corrosion, it could be anything.

I'm actually thinking it's an 1883/2, IMO.

It's not an 1883/2. It's just an 1882, although it's not the typical 1882 with a filled 2 that people like to claim is an 83/2. This coin just has a damaged 2 - it's possible the damage was in the die, but more likely it's post-strike. The following web page tells you why it can't be an 83/2:

To me it looks 82 with die fill ,yet again coin has a heavy environmental damage on it which makes it difficult to access with certainty.

It's not difficult to assess with certainty that it is not an 1883/2.

Exactly what caused the deformity in the two is probably impossible to assess.
