What are your thoughts on this one. Looks like three extra stars at date, last one under base of liberty. I can't find any varieties for this date. The coin is also ever so slightly bigger in diameter and weighs 6.1 grams. Variety? Error? Please opine.

Interesting coin. Looks like this might be a double-struck coin, with the extra stars being the only obvious remnants of the first, slightly off-center strike. I would expect to see more first-strike remnants however if that is what happened.
Weight is slightly low and the coin has some obverse damage.
I'd like to see comments from some of our error experts!

I searched almost all 1864 graded by NGC and PCGS looking for any remnants of stars in that area, and found a few coins with anomalies in that area, mainly what looks like die polish lines (maybe). Most all of the coins I looked at has a die crack from right hand base of liberty to rim and right under star 13. This coin does not have those markers. Still doing research and any help would be appreciated.

I agree, looks like it might be a double struck coin.

It looks like a double struck coin to me. I looked at the image and rotated it over the original and it looks like the star closest to the 1 could match to star #10. The next star (the clearest one) would be star 11 and then the one in the rock would be 13 but it is off center as well. It is hard to to be exact with these images but that is my guess. I was trying to find any other markings of an off center turned obverse doubling but could not see anything else, if you had higher resolution pictures it could help.

Most unusual. Can't think of any other explanation.
