Quote: Interesting thought on the Centennial set. I'd be shocked (disappointed) if this is a commissioned item. I don't believe a proof set has ever been commissioned and I'd be really upset if the Mint allowed the Colville images to be exploited in that way. I guess we will see when the next TSC show airs. If they have half the 10k mintage, we'll know...but again, I really doubt it. The 5 oz Colville coins were commissioned.

@New1954. Yes you're correct. I'm referring to their early release sheets that show the upcoming coins. The have all the other August releases in their sheets but nothing on this Colville commemorative set. The Manager of the Post Office I visit wasn't aware of it but is ordering the Gate and Superman coin. I told the manager about the set as they hadn't seen it yet.

Quote: @ CC-Ottawa......You may be on to something about this set being commissioned. I had a look at the Canada Post order sheets today and the set is no where to be found. It was actually headlessone that suggested they might be commissioned. I don't think they are. Also of note, the RCM catalogue arrived via mail today and it doesn't include the Centennial set either. I think they really are a special release outside of the regular August release. @moneypenney of course, I had forgotten the 5oz. Thank you. Wishful thinking I guess on my part that they didn't exist. IMO, these coins really need to be of proper size and I'm glad they were created as such in the Centennial set.

I could not resist... and placed my order for the 2017 Commemorative Silver 7-Coin Proof Set.
I honestly don't care if the set doesn't hold its value. This was a sentimental purchase. I almost bought 2 sets just to crack one open... loved those coins...

Centennial design truly Canadiana classic and regardless if commission or not, Shouldn't matter so long as design and or theme appeals no?

In general, very true But for example, very appealing 5oz's with the same design not extremely welcomed. The first one generated the hype, but only from the perspective of the good resell. So what is the issue? Big size and the price. Commissioner, being businessmen, missed the fact, that these coins have to be more affordable and close as possible to originals.... Anyway, I also think, that the set will not remain on the shelves of the CP and majority of dealers. Does anyone plan to break the set?

Big coins series 1 - were great in that the coins in our pockets for most of our lives blown up in size - very good concept Follow up series of Colville coin...not thought out too well... The sacred Colville designs were disfigured The set should not have been replicated in this big coin format...hence the cooler reception New centennial set is being fully embraced - truly viewed as a tribute to Colville's classic thoughtful design even with the splash of gold enhancement and it's going to sell out despite high mintage commissioned or not.

Where are we going to look for these videos? mint.ca?

Quote: Check out the videos for the Centennial set. The RCM definitely could have been more selective in the coins it chose for the videos. Small marks/imperfections can be seen on the reverse of the 50-cent coin, and much larger and more serious imperfections on the reverse of the one-cent coin (at about 10:00am). Hopefully, the production sets will show fewer issues. Few, unfortunately, will be perfect but their quality should be nearly so. I would not keep a set that contained the one-cent coin in the video. Quote:Where are we going to look for these videos? mint.ca? Yes, mint.ca. At this point, however, they are only visible to MC members.

Maybe the penny was dinged during filming - very obvious defect

It must have accidentally slipped out Bromberg's hands during filming. I'm surprised their's no fingerprints all over them.

I see the production quantity of the modified SML started to drop to 100 units, and themes have unlimited variation:
"Moon Mask Native America", "Frozen Superman Shield"...etc
Do people continue to buy these?

Quote: Do people continue to buy these? I think you've answered your own question by noting that production runs have dropped to 100 for some of the variations. These pieces were always in the "buy only if you like it" category as most are destined to be worth less than melt value in time. More than one dealer has told me that they pay less for such pieces than they do for standard bullion. (And remember, dealers need to pay less than spot for standard bullion in order to sell it at a competitive price.)
