There's an ebay auction for what looks to be a circulated 1916-S Mercury dime right now that is currently over $300. How is this coin worth that much? It's clearly not a D mint mark. The only thing I can think is that the S mm seems to be misplaced. But even then, wouldn't it likely be a doctored mm and not authentic? Why are people bidding this up so high?

Absent shilling activity, people are bidding because they want the coin.

It's mostly one guy bidding it up. Looks to be only a 13$ coin to me at the most.
