I want to try metal detecting on the beaches and park in Florida. What is a good relatively inexpensive detector for casual use in sand, dirt, etc? I'd probably only go out once per week. I looked at Garrett and Bounty Hunter on Amazon. Should I buy new or used (eBay, Craigslist, pawn shop)? What is a good budget $150-250? Should I look for units with Accessories included? Thank you in advance!
Rest in Peace

50% of all metal detectors are not used beyond the first year, and many are retired after only a few uses.

Consequently, you can find super barely used detectors for great prices. Try a buy add in local paper or Craig's list.

You'll need a saltwater machine like the AT Pro, about $600. Holds it's value if you decide to sell. Very popular.

Don't cheap out on your first purchase, it's why so many become discouraged with metal detecting.

I dumped Whites after spending $1K on a DFX. I was really dissappointed.

That's what I thought. The Garrett's sell quickly. This one has been for sale for a while.

I ended up getting the White's for a pretty good price with extras. I tend to procrastinate things. So, I decided to just buy it and get out there. I'm hoping to report some cool finds! Thank you everyone!
