I usually can tell what is going on with die scratches and polishing lines but these have me a touch baffled. The lines are raised on the coin, not thin like polish lines, and are on the surface of the die not in the devices. Any thoughts?

Maybe feeder finger scrapes. Just a good guess.

Either its an extreme "Trail Die" or they used a wire brush to clean off the anvil die.

From the photos you provided it just looks like the poor nickel got sucked up into Sharknado.

The lines appear recessed. Are they actually above the field?

Yes, they are raised slightly above the surface.

What exactly are feeder fingers? I've heard of this die damage before but never really looked into it.
Rest in Peace

More information here: http://www.error-ref.com/?s=feeder&...+damage Scroll down to "Die Scrapes". After you read that, click on 'feeder fingers' for even more information.
