This one is just painful to look at

$10,350.00* - 08/01/08

$5462.50*1 - 10/24/08

Poor sap tried to flip the coin two months later and poof! $4,887.50 gone!

Cheerios dollars seem to be losing value at alarming rates; they are a terrible investment choice and I don't think I could ever justify a major purchase for this hobby, knowing that it will not only lose value, but lose thousands of dollars if I ever have to sell it.

"For now", might haunt you. Of course if you find the major bucks along life's highways, it might be possible.

But I'd still rather have a 1916 Standing Liberty quarter, or a 1855 Flying Eagle cent Pattern, or a couple MS 66 better Saint Gauden's, or .......

If that guy a few posts ago lost that much money in two months, and that was 9 years ago, you may find one in your price range eventually. If your set is otherwise complete, I'd call that a win and move on but keep your eyes and ears open for that unexpected opportunity to pick it up later.

Let it go for now and work on something else. I don't know what you future income prospects are but you never know what will come along. In the past ten years I've managed to add three coins from my "I'll never own one of those" list to my collection.

That is very reassuring to all of us.

One more vote for considering your set complete. Errors and varieties are optional. Some coins have so many varieties that a "complete" set is literally impossible, because once you get to a certain point, there will always be new varieties defined.

I've got many Albums that are not complete and never will be. Don't even know why some companies put slots in their Albums or Folders for coins that are rather a never to get.

I do not know either.

Not that it is impossible, I still wish the 1922 Plain hole was not in my Lincoln album.

Did some of you folks actually start collecting with an idea in mind of what a complete set consisted of? I sure didn't. When I got "bit" I started collecting everything at once - whatever I found in a handful of change. Got a few cheapie folders and started plugging holes.

It was long after I was hopelessly addicted that I started thinking about things like Morgans and complete sets. The fun is in the journey regardless of your ultimate definition of satisfaction.

Visit every small convenience store you can find, the ones that don't sell much more than beer and bongs. Buy up all the stale Cheerios on the shelves.

You'll find a coin eventually.

Same here. I had no idea what key dates were. My mom bought me Whitman folders and I started filling them.
