Quote:I wouldn't surprise, if Wallmart will distribute (after the Sears) some inexpensive RCM gift coin sets. Sears in Ottawa used to have a fair sized coin 'department' where they sold not only NCLT (there weren't a lot of them back then) but also traditional collector circulated coins. It was a separate store within the store and staffed by coin people. Maybe Wal-mart will start doing that too? Kind of like how they have a McDs, eye glasses shop or Tim's now, they will have a mini coin shop in stores?

This option, like you mentioned, CC-Ottawa, could work not bad, but again, only for 'entry-level' RCM items. One of the exclusiveness of the RCM NCLT coins, in the fact, that majority of the people even not aware in their existence. imo, the happens not 'end of the world' for RCM NCLT, but huuuge mistake made at the Mint. So...I don't have Costco card and don't like their 'wholesale' idea, also don't have Walmart in my area, but will say: "welcome coins to SuperStore or Metro or Shell"

Correct me if I wrong, but Walmart associates with selling mass-production items (in everything) and discounts. I believe it's target customer group is everyone, but even people with lots of money one the accounts go there to pickup something cheap. And for their 'little hobby' they prefer specialized stores.

Wal-mart could easily staff knowledgeable coin people (just as your LCS does) in a mini-store within Wal-mart outlets. They have doctors in their WalkIn clinics, pharmacists in their drug sections, eye specialists in their glasses stores, beauticians in their nail shops, sandwich experts in their SubWays, etc.... Those are likely franchise arrangements but the concept is right there and easily duplicated.

Is it possible that the RCM products will only be available via Walmart's web site and that the orders will be transferred to the RCM for the actual fulfillment? Maybe the Walmart web site is just another "front end" outlet for the RCM distribution system.

Quote:s it possible that the RCM products will only be available via Walmart's web site and that the orders will be transferred to the RCM for the actual fulfillment? Possibly but the 2 oz MC Exclusive coin page states it is 'sold and shipped by Wal-mart'. Generally, if Wal-mart is drop shipping or website fronting, they would show 'sold and shipped by RCM'. BTW, there are currently 4 in stock.

Here it is (many would argue it came a long time ago), the RCM has finally jumped the shark! I'm all for them selling at a major retailer, I mean our hobby could use all the exposure it can get. The more collectors out there, the better it is for the hobby. What I'm down right miffed about is them selling the MC exclusive coin. I can buy coins at a discount at dealers but I still buy direct from the mint for the MC benefit of early notification and access to the exclusive coins. With that not being the case anymore, I have 2 options. 1. Buy from dealers or 2. Just give up buying RCM stuff. Honestly, I'm really feeling cheated, lied to and ripped off. I think I might actually be done with all RCM stuff and that's hard for me to say. I just hate companies that lie and do business in a dishonest way.

As a matter of fact I'm so pssed off that I am going to close my store on ebay right after it sells out. Just reduced all my merchandise by 20%off.

After an exchange of emails, my rep claims no knowledge of this. His reply "Just sent it up. Out of the office right now, but will be in touch later" My conversations with my rep, have been always on the up and up. He seems to respect the hobby, and me specifically. (actually paid for lunch when we met about 5 years ago! ) I'm quite certain that this new direction the mint has taken is with tremendous opposition from the real reps who do what the title entails represent our 'the collector's interest. I thought it odd that years ago Sears had a little corner of their store marked of as "Sears Coin Shop" but what I think that was, was a laundering facility to pull out as much silver from circulation, and make a profit doing it. Now, with Wal-mart and Costco thrown into the mix, I can't help but believe that all they want is sell outs every time, With the remainder to dump the non-sellers at the grocery stores.

This is nuts. For a long time, this hobby was fueled by local small dealers who had the coins you wanted and with whom you could develop a relationship. With the Masters Club, and everyone could become a Masters Club member with the FV coins at little real cost... it hurt the small local dealers as the NCLT market largely went away. The Masters Club had value due to the "exclusives" but now you can get Masters Club exclusives at Walmart and soon Costco at a discount... Will the small local dealers get this access... I doubt it. If we are not careful, the guy on the corner with the stock of Newfoundland 50cent coins will go away and we will be left with the shark tank of counterfeits that is ebay. Not to mention that Walmart has demonstrated the lowest level of business ethics. I guess the RCM will now be able to claim all NCLT were sell outs in order to justify the crazy markup on their silver. A sad day

Interesting post. I think that the small dealers can still survive as long as they have a place on the internet. This is just my opinion. ebay - and the internet has given much more opportunities for collectors (and crooks maybe) but the same internet is educating people to be aware of the bad guys. Unscrupulous dealers won't necessarily tell the whole story. Hope you can develop a good relationship with us too!
