Looks like the Mint has a Silver Dollar Collection available to the public now. This is not for Master Club member only, it is available for anyone: http://www.mint.ca/store/coin/1-fin...-prod1380001My guess is that they set up a deal with Canadian Coin and Currency, or Steven Bromberg to sell vintage silver dollars, the same individual that sells official Mint stuff with The Shopping Channel. This is just a guess though.

At first glance I'm not seeing anything different from the old silver dollars already available through other dealers at half the price....or am I missing something?

Total cost will be at least $400. I did a quick check on prices and even middle level graded versions of these coins seem to be well below $60 each from a west cost dealer.
Am I missing something besides a really nice box?

the set costs $350, the page doesn't mention how many sets will be available. to assemble a MS60 set will need $230 at j&m

Quote: the set costs $350 plus tax and shipping.... pretty close to $400 in this province even with Masters club free shipping. And possibly more - mint reserves right to change prices based on market value of silver.

Interesting. How did you find this? I can't find it just browsing through mint.ca, only through the link.

yes I know, they are expensive . here is the question, where are these coins from? I suppose RCM can't re-strike these silver dollars today, right?

They might be worth it if there was a guarantee of grade but nothing in the description gives me any reason to believe that these are anything but ordinary coins. Lithanial is probably right that they come from a dealer, possibly even the that guy who usually would sell this sort of thing on the shopping channel. Fortunately, they are not newly minted. That would be troubling. But I have seen other sets offered in the past with more current dollars (from the 80s and 90s) and always wondered where they came from. Never an item on the mint.ca but sent in mailings from the mint with a phone number to order.

Did any of you guys check out the "back" of the coins? A few have the Queen's father and one even has her grandfather.

Just did a check of my records and my total cost for this collection is $171.94. None of mine are graded but are at least MS-60.

Looks like this set is overpriced by as much as 2x. If these coins came graded as...MS-64 or MS-65 then that would be a good deal. However, I think they will mostly be PL-65 (except the 1935 ) or maybe even MS-63, which is definitely NOT worth it.

Agreed. This is actually a bit disturbing. If this were ebay the seller could be in trouble for posting pictures that are misleading.

Not bothering with any of these subscription service products. Not after the continuing fiasco and scam that was the 2011 F15 collection.
Grandma bait, this is.
