I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on the grade of these coins. Also I would like to know how the dings etc on the 1962 piece would effect the grade. Thanks
1949-VF20 . Just. Melt value. 1962-EF-45 (maybe au-50 but I don't think so). The marks I beleive are from other coins banging in the collection hoppers at the mint or during transport in bags. Both have been cleaned at sometime. Because of the condition this one is also melt value. MS-62 or better is when the marks would have any impact, simply because this coin isn't worth grading. Hope this helps. CoinsandCanada.com is a great reference site. Most of what I know I've learned is from CCF and CoinsandCanada.com
Those spiral marks on the obverse of the '62 look like PMD rather than bag marks - but in any case, if you just want to label your 2x2 then EF45 seems reasonable, but it's value is just melt. Love the '49, but I agree that it looks like it's been cleaned.
Thanks Yes info is just for labeling at this point, but I was wondering how marks like that would effect the grade. As for the cleaning , ha ha , I sometimes think my dad used sandpaper.
