I wish they'd do some additional reconsidering and sell a 5- (or even 6-) coin set. As before, I don't need 5 additional ASEs.

Unfortunately it was a calculated decision to try and drive sales of the commemorative which was probably influenced by the negative feedback when the design was announced. Looking at the numbers it seems the decision probably hindered the sales of the medals more than helped the sales of the commemorative.

I like the medals and I can tolerate the silver dollar. One silver dollar. Not five. Completely agree. I strongly believe the medals would have sold out if they were offered as a set or even individually without the dollar tied to it

The USPS has issued a WWI themed Forever stamp this year. I am unsure if I can post the image due to copyright but one can see it in the postal store https://store.usps.com/store/produc...ide-S_477404To be honest and with all due respect, WWI's prime remembrance time was likely 30 to 40 years ago if not longer. WWII is the "big war" that gets all the attention. Without researching, how many WWI battles/battle sites can you name? List 5 American military officers (any branch) that served in WWI. Ask yourself those same two questions about WWII. Much easier to answer the WWII questions isn't it? I'm not arguing that this commemorative isn't a worthy candidate I think it is--- simply said this one isn't likely to sell out. -MV

Quote: WWI's prime remembrance time was likely 30 to 40 years ago if not longer. The 100 year mark is an appropriate time. WWII overshadows it because of the fact it happened after just as WWIII would overshadow WWII if it happened. The other thing is that WWII was also really the first with footage from actual battles and a lot of stories were much more fitting for Hollywood instead of the trench warfare of WWI. All that said it's not really a surprise that WWII stole the light for a long time and unfortunately by the time appropriate anniversaries of WWI had happened such as a 20 or 25 year WWII was already in underway. Had the design been spectacular it could have been one of the more popular ones. None of the moderns dollars sell out anymore though, the mintages are just simply to high for the premium the mint wants

I just ordered an Army set and a Marine Corps set - gifts for two good friends who are veterans of the respective services. I'm glad they put these cancelled orders on sale as the prices were too high on ebay.

My previous post: Quote:ATTENTION: I jumped on ebay on the 21st and bought both the Marines and Army sets from PinehurstCoins for $99 per set, as mentioned above by RPT. Pinehurst left me positive feedback and I was awaiting shipment, when a guy named Brian called me about an hour ago. He told me over the phone that Pinehurst could not honor the price that I paid, but he was able to offer me a $50 discount on the actual price of $299.00 per set. When I told him the whole deal sounded like a Bait-and-Switch scam to me, he relented and offered me the sets for $199 each. Pinehurst Coins likes to boast that "Customer service is our number one goal," but profit seems to be its ultimate goal! In fairness, I can now report that a Pinehurst Coin Exchange representative called me last week and said they would honor the $99 price for one of the sets I originally ordered, but could not not fulfill the two-set order. I agreed on the purchase of one set and the coins arrived promptly as advertised.

That is a good story captainrich. I think you picked the wrong set to get for the $99 though! Should have stuck with the Marine Corps set.
