TNG makes an obvious point, well taken. I've sure learned a lot on this thread.

Someone mentioned an ebay link on the forum. If clicking on the featured Member ebay listing at the top of each page generates revenue, then there's your link. It will take you to that listing, of course, but you're on ebay and go from there after viewing the listing. I'm using mobile and those links take me to the app instead of the mobile webpage, which is nice.

I mean if you looking for something specific why not check our members first right? Quote: I'm using mobile and those links take me to the app instead of the mobile webpage, which is nice. Yes, I've tried to structure the links so they will do that.

For us old farts that needs a 6 year old to hook up our TVs, I found it takes about a minute when you jump in to click on each of the ads here, look at one item and back out. If that generates funds to keep the site going, I can gladly do that each time I open the site. The APMEX link works off and on... I think they change the link. The other day it was blank, then went to their main page, today it goes to the collectable coins page.

Just curious, if the fake reports have brought ebay funding to a near halt, would it perhaps benefit the forum to do the opposite - recommend sellers or point out deals as well? Of course I don't like sharing my fishing hole any more than the next guy, but I'd happily put in the effort to help our forum dad back on his feet.

@Finn, that's a great idea about pointing out good deals. If you are not going to buy it, then it might as well go to one of the CCF members.
Although the definition "good deal" can differ, at least, it will give exposure here.

Bobby, I think if you can provide us with a general walkthrough of how google adsense and ebay's affiliate programs work it will help us to understand your revenue model. I don't think there is a member here that wouldn't be willing to adjust their browsing habits to make CCF more successful. Perhaps a private group email to all members in certain standing might be the best approach?

Lots of good ideas. I know I'll be clicking on ads more often, who knows what I might find! Otherwise, I hope everyone will try to donate something, no matter how small it might be.

Quote: I know I'll be clicking on ads more often, who knows what I might find! For what it is worth, my first Ike dollar ebay purchase came from seeing it listed on CCF. They were in the "Items on ebay from our Established Members with 100 or More Posts" section that shows up on the New Posts page when there are no new posts.

So you didn't really "Like Ike" until after you signed up?

Some ideas... #1 - Many of us here on CCF buy and sell on ebay. I propose that members who are willing to do so might list some items as charitable listings, with some or all of the proceeds going directly to Bobby and Susan to defray the operational, administrative, and other financial expenses associated with hosting CCF. I further propose that for a limited duration, a new sub-forum should be created to allow members participating in such sales to promote their ebay listings in that sub-forum, so that all CCF members know which listings are part of the charity listings. This also encourages keeping coins in the CCF family. #2 -- those of you with a journalistic talent might be willing to write and contribute articles to local and national coin clubs and organizations regarding CCF. As an example headline, how about "Major Internet coin collecting forum may be forced to shut down due to rising costs" or something along those lines, and then the article could fill in about how great CCF is, and what a service it provides to our numismatic hobby, along with an appeal for both direct donations and subscriptions to continue to allow CCF to serve us. This might even be something that the ANA would consider a grant for, especially if those of us who are ANA members apply a bit of pressure to our local boards and to the regional and national board. #3 -- Once things return to a measure of stability, it should be undertaken to consider raising funds to run promotions in major coin publications - CDN, CoinWorld, NumisMedia, COINage, the Numismatist, and large regional newsletters such as FUN, CSNS, TNA, etc. These promotions could be used to lead new and old collectors alike to CCF. #4 -- I propose the subsequent issue of a new CCF commemorative token or round, to be struck in copper or bronze (or nickel) and perhaps even a few in silver, as has been previously done, with all proceeds from the sales of such tokens going directly to Bobby and CCF. A contest could be held among CCF members to design the token, with member voting choosing the final designs. This model of revenue-raising has been very successful for regional coin clubs and national numismatic organizations for years, as well as for large dealers, auction houses, and trade publications. Such a token issue need not be large, perhaps no larger than a half dollar, and perhaps a run of 1000 would be sufficient at first, especially if monthly subscribers were eligible to receive a copper strike at a discount or free of charge.
