paralyse: #1 - Many of us here on CCF buy and sell on ebay. I propose that members who are willing to do so might list some items as charitable listings, with some or all of the proceeds going directly to Bobby and Susan to defray the operational, administrative, and other financial expenses associated with hosting CCF.

I further propose that for a limited duration, a new sub-forum should be created to allow members participating in such sales to promote their ebay listings in that sub-forum, so that all CCF members know which listings are part of the charity listings. This also encourages keeping coins in the CCF family.

I like something like this. I was actually thinking along the lines of accepting coin/currency donations from members to be auctioned off for the benefit of this site. You'd be a lot likelier to get me to give you a dupe coin, even if somewhat valuable, than to get the same in cash. Not that I'm so cheap but I need the cash myself.

I did donate $5 now, as I wasn't even aware finances were an issue. I didn't read the referenced link but I did read the posts through and I assume Bobby is the owner of CCF and is footing the bills.

Sure, clicking through the ads would help but the advertisers aren't dumb either. They'll need a certain % of people to buy stuff, too. APMEX is actually a pretty good bullion company. They're currently selling a comm Wash qtr, 5-oz silver, under the America the Beautiful program, for just $105. That's the cheapest on the internet, maybe even less now as silver dropped a lot yesterday. If I get one, likely that will be it. I already bought a 10-oz silver APMEX bar but, strangely, it was from another company.

I like this site, mainly because I don't know who else would want to listen to a coin geek like me go on and on, lol. Hope it doesn't fold up or become so commercial, like with those horrible pop-ups, that it drives me away.

Keep up the great work, Bobby!

So you didn't really "Like Ike" until after you signed up?
No. Read again.

My first my first Ike dollar eBay purchase was not my first Ike Dollar purchase.

I had filled a whole Dansco of Ike Dollars two years before ebay was founded.

I actually met Ike as a boy in 1958 in Richard Nixon's office. My dad and Nixon worked together during WWII and our family was there visiting him when Ike stopped by for some forgotten reason.

Well, he was the sitting president, did he really need a reason?

I was just a kid, but I remember thinking how small he was compared to this image I already had in my mind. My dad was tall for that era (6'2", maybe taller) and he towered over both Ike and Nixon.

With security and such these days it is so difficult to imagine a President just "dropping by" -- that's an awesome story and a treasured memory, I'm sure. I think I'd be extremely lucky to even meet a President some day, much less have one drop in for a social visit.

I like the idea but, I don't think it would work for CCF. There is a process for any organization to be registered as charitable through the PayPal Giving Fund. I'm not sure CCF fits the requirements for that.

Well, it probably doesn't fit the 501C criteria for a charity but maybe ebay will still allow automatic diversion of a percentage of proceeds. If not, the individual can do it on their honor, I guess.

The president came to town on Monday (he was about 5000 feet from where I work and I pass that hotel every day). They had several surrounding roads blocked off and police were everywhere (I had to take the long way home that evening). It was a big deal that involved a lot of planning, for sure. Yes, we have come a long way from the days when John Adams could just walk all alone to the bad part of town to find his son.

I didn't mean making it a "formal" charity, more like we could include some text in the listing that some or all of the proceeds go to benefit CCF. This would make searches easy along with the sub-forum for promoting listings.

jbuck - As a footnote, Nixon's working offices back then were in (distant memory) the Russell Senate Office Building, I believe.

Okay, how about this - you can join for free, but once you reach 50 posts, it's assumed you're on board and you are then asked for a minimum donation of X dollars to become a regular member.

Reaction?

I personally am in favor of this. It is not like we are talking about some huge fee. That can be determined at a later time. I would say there would need to be somekind of IP checking too make sure someone didnt just keep creating a new account if we put a posting limit on how long it is free.

Given all this forum offers from knowledge , to fellowship, to sales, it is certainly a value to anyone coming here. So I am in favor of this being explored further.
