Hello all,

I picked up this 1874 M Australia Victoria Gold Sovereign recently.

I'm getting addicted to sovereigns.

The pics are not great. They were taken under sub-optimal light conditions with an iPhone. Some pics taken with coin in a 2 by 2 and some raw.

I tried to capture as much of the "flaws" as possible.

The coin looks very nice in hand. Great "eye appeal". IMHO.

Any assistance on grading and/or value is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Some small scratches, some wear on the high places... how about XF45 or so?

Sounds pretty good to me.

Thank you UltraRant.

Besides the sold listings on the USA ebay you have any suggestion or gut feeling on value?

I want to make sure as I keep buying these sovereigns, that I'm currently addicted to, that I don't over pay and maybe even get a good deal or two.

As you have seen on the Sold Listings US$400_$500 is probably the mark but I have occasionally seen similar Coins under US$400.
Not sure if the misformed 4 adds or detracts from its value, some of the Aussie Sovereign hunters on this Forum would know.

Basil-

Thanks for bring up the misformed 4. I have never seen one like that and wondered also if it added or detracted from the value.

Interesting.

Sweet. I was thinking AU so I'm glad to get some confirmation that my grading skills (or lack there of ) are improving.
