Thanks for all the positive comments, guys. I'm definitely cracking it out and resubmitting. ANACS has it pegged at 55 in an old white holder. I spent a great deal of time looking at other examples both in MS and AU and I think it could go either way. Definitely a 58 possibly plus but It's hard to tell if its rub or strike issues. The cheek appears to be rub free. There is only 2 questionable areas in the hair but when looking at other examples in MS, they too share those soft spots.

So, any unforeseen issues now that it's in hand? It's an amazing coin. I didn't see a mark on it and it's a date I'm needing. (I.e., I was one of your competing bidders.) Hope it works out. Resubmitting is certainly in order. Sure is some eye candy. Congrats, Mike!

My only concern is the high points on the bust. I can't tell if it's rub or not. But it would be odd to have rub occur on the bust but not on the face. Usually with au coins the face shows signs of rub. The two soft spots on the hair appear to have luster. So I'm thinking that it's a strike issue. The reverse looks ms to me. I took it into the coin department at Meierotto Jewelers and they couldn't tell either. Both sides of the coin are remarkable blemish free. Not a single ding or knick.
I have about 7 coins that need to be graded so I'm thinking the most economical way to do it is to purchase a PCGS membership but I'm terrified of trying to crack this one out.

Between the cachet of the old ANACS slab, and the coin's outstanding appearance, I don't see a PCGS slab improving its' lot much. For appropriate return you're going to need to get the coin in front of experts anyway, and those types are generally slab-proof. Not that I think you're going to lose money down the road.

Mike, about the only place I see what looks like wear- and that's a stretch- is the top of her cap. The front of the drapery has what may or may not be rub. A few of the curls, esp at the top, are slightly flattened, maybe from wear but also could be from the strike. On the rev, I see only minor wear on the center claw on the right (a high point) and the smallest of possible wear on the top of the left wing.
All in all, it almost certainly would have to be a 58. Luster would enter into that grade but there's seems to be an abundance of that in her curls and in the eagle's feathers. As for being an MS, I wouldn't think the graders would miscall an MS all the way to 55.
If you submit for a crossover to another company or for an upgrade to Anacs, you can leave the coin in its holder. If they can cross it, they'll remove it. Puts a lot less stress on the owners that way.

One way or another, best to get it in a major TPG holder, which ANACS is not.
