Here's a good one. Back in October I won an auction for a very nice William III British 1697 Six Pence. I paid and the seller sent me a tracking number. But the number never entered into the postal system. We exchanged a number of messages. He said he'd checked with his post office but they couldn't help. He ended up refunding my money. I sent him a message saying that if the coin ever showed up I still wanted it and would pay again. Here's that auction: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Perfect-16...047675.l2557Today, while looking at ebay, I saw the same coin offered by the same seller. I emailed him asking what was going on. I didn't receive an answer before the auction ended. So, I also bid on the coin and ebay said I won it . . . again. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-this-...refresh=trueHowever, I then received an email from ebay saying I hadn't won it and had been outbid with two seconds left, even though ebay said I had won the auction. https://mail.yahoo.com/;_ylt=AwrJ7J...wNzcg--#mailI might be wrong, and I like to be the trusting sort, but I would assume that the seller never mailed the coin the first time and this time he did something (a shill bidder?) that changed the outcome of the auction. If the coin was lost, but then found and returned to the seller and he listed it again, I don't understand why my winning bid, acknowledged by ebay, suddenly wasn't a winning bid. Obviously, I am not pleased with this seller. What's the best way to deal with this? Paul Bulgerin

Sorry, ebay has changed the listing to show I didn't win it. Here's a photo I took of my computer screen showing I did win it.

Wow...I get outbid all the time from last millisecond bidder bots, but never won an auction and had it revised later. It should show a timestamp of bidders, is there one that appears after you?

That's really weird. The screen shot I have of the bidding shows that you were outbid. Possibly the ebay software glitched because there were two bidders within the same second at 4:00:19PM PST. You beat the first bidder but not the second one, and the software messed up. That doesn't explain the seller re-selling the same coin I think he did hold back the coin and resell it. That would tick me off especially after losing it a second time like that. Just not meant to be on this one. The karma chicken will get even for you.

Thanks for sharing this Paul. Probably the weirdest ebay story I have ever read. I will refrain from bidding on auctions from this seller

It is weird because you were outbid by O***a 9 sec earlier than your bid registered with 1***s hitting at the exact time of yours to outbid both. One of them computer thingys for sure, why I hate ebay bidding for those exact reasons. The auctions I use will reset for two minutes extended bidding, just have to make sure I'm on my computer for the speed at last minute, peripherals are slower buffers.

OP is 0***a, and had the (temporary) winning bid of $73.02, but then a fraction of a second later 1***S outbid him. Looks like Paul's max bid was $88.88. Maybe the seller will non ship the coin again......would't be surprised. Must be a desirable coin, since two bidders sniped at the same time 2 seconds before the hammer. I don't think they were shills, their bidding history doesn't bear that out. Extremely unusual for sure. Quote: What's the best way to deal with this? Not sure if ebay can do anything, but it might be worth letting them know you won this coin back in October, and the seller never sent it, then auctioned it again.

I have emailed the seller again asking for answers. I sent him the screen shot which shows ebay informed me I won the auction. If I don't hear back from him I am going to contact ebay to let them know what has happened. I'm not sure if they can or will do anything about it, but it will feel good to vent a bit.

The best way to deal with this is to forget it ever happened and move on.
As far as who won the auction at the end, don't put any weight into that. The emails on that can be all over the place, a lot of people have reported the you won email when they didn't. I doubt it's multiple sellers sniping their own auctions, likely some system coding glitch that has been going on for years as that happened to me several years ago.
For everything else yea most likely it wasn't shipped since the same person auctioned it again, but it is what it is. If you don't like the seller move on and ignore his common or low value stuff. It's unlikely it was lost in the mail then returned to him with no tracking scan. Either way nothing you can do about it and not worth worrying about

Thanks for the comments. After getting to vent a bit in my message to the seller, I will take your advice and let it rest with that.
