I researched 1981 P and did not find any errors/varieties to look for so with no reference I wanted to ask about this.

Note the affected areas are all the same color. That is because it is Machine Doubling, not a doubled die. On a doubled die the contour would be present on those areas with a color change from light to dark. On your coin these devices are reduced in size.
On CONECA they have no doubled dies listed for this year/mint.
