First, I'm unsure if it's okay to start this thread, or should this post be merged with the "post your toned coins" thread. I think it's going to be interesting to see luster on members' brown copper coins, so here goes nothing    Netherlands East Indies 1/2 Cent, 1914. MS, brown (chocolate patina  ). The rather faint cartwheel is visible in this picture, spanning from the left dot to the "H".  |

I do prefer brown copper to red. Seeing brown copper with luster is quite nice.  |

The Romans used a very high quality bronze that, properly stored, could patinate quite well over the course of 1500+ years. This one (Crispus, oldest son of Constantine, c. 318) has the look of a freshly unwrapped piece of dark chocolate:  I have a number of high grade brown-brown-toned bronzes; I'll have to dig some out. We are avoiding coins with any traces of red or purple/orange toning? |

Great idea for a thread! I have really come to like brown coins with luster. Quote:

Here's a sestertius (4-as or 1/4 denarius; roughly Ike dollar sized) of Antoninus Pius, 138-161. It's made of "orichalchum" or a special gold-colored brass alloy of 80% copper and 20% zinc.  |
