Quote: Thanks for all the great responses. I must admit, I'm a bit puzzled by voting on this one so far.
It is a reflection of the coin market and current grading standards. Many white and dipped coins are making their way into straight TPG holders that a nice original coin looks out of place anymore.
I don't mean to say this in a negative way, so please no backlash, but I am a member of the Liberty Seated Collectors Club. My guess is if you asked that question to the members in the club then you would get an entirely different result to your poll.

I'm familiar with them. I guess it's our fault for not educating CCF members.
So for the record, this is about as original as a Seated dollar gets, folks. This is the look you want to shoot for if you ever pursue this series. Cleaned coins comprise 95% of the available float at auctions. On any given signature Heritage auction, you will be lucky if you can find 2-3 Seated dollars with original surfaces. That's how rare they are.
Eye appeal does still matter, that is very true! The coin doctors need to leave this one alone though. They won't improve the appearance and it will look like all the other cleaned white SLDs (I know you didn't suggest that Andrew but I'm just emphasizing the point as I've seen it stated numerous times on this forum.)
Quote: I like the look, I'd like it even better in a PCGS slab though. The white NGC core really clashes with these types of looks which likely is part of what's getting the mixed responses.
You might be on to something. I am tempted to "see" what it would look like in a 7070.
Okay, I had to try it. This is not a solicitation, just daydreaming.
A bit too dark, the halo around the stars and the letters indicates recovery from an old, old cleaning, and the cabinet friction is from somebody putting it in a 7070 or something equivalent and not minding the plastic slide movement which is the whitening on the obverse only. I'm just not thrilled with it overall.
