The problem with China versions of Gold coins is that they got clever and now use gold plated Tungsten, a metal with very near the same weight and specific gravity as gold, so they are a wee bit harder to spot. Counterfeit Sovereigns have a long history and have been traced to India, the Middle East, England, Australia and quite a few other countries. The good people at NGC and PCGS have XRF scanners 3D microscopes and other fun toys and have handled thousands of them - I'd send it off to them. At premium grades this is worth as much as the 1855, and they are by no means easy to find in good grades. Good luck. Report this Post to the Staff
