Hello, guys!
Let's learn more about 2001 Centenary of federation coins! I love to collect them though.
What state coins are hard to find in your area?
In my area, Melbourne(Victoria) it is really hard to find ACT, QLD, NT 20 cents and ACT, SA 20 cents.
I don't understand why.
And I recently realized it was so hard to find any COF 20 cents coins. I think they are almost become extinct.

Yeah, hard to find in the wild these days, they were noodled out of existence shortly after release, every man and his dog were collecting them, you can still pick them up on ebay for about double face if your patient. I was in Sydney early 2000's and found Norfolk Island & ACT the hardest 20c to find and I went through a lot of Bank Change bags.

I managed to find a set after a lot of time. But that was back in 2005(?) and it was already quite hard back then. These days? You might find a random 20 cents or 50 cents once every few months.
I think I was in Sydney at that time and found Norfolk Islands, and ACT to be hard - similar to Basil's thoughts. If I had to rank them from easiest to hardest:
1) NSW 2) TAS 3) QLD 4) WA 5) NT 6) SA 7) VIC 8) ACT 9) Norfolk Islands
Again this is from my experience and it could also be geographically related.

You may find one of these types once per year, if you are continually looking at your pocket change. I have a complete set, but as with your experience, that was within six months after they were released into circulation.
From my experience, I am nevertheless unable to say which is the scarcest of the COF 20 Cents or 50 Cents that still circulate.
I try to collect two uncirculated condition examples of each type of new Australian coin type that is released into circulation since 1966. I have about 130 coins collected at face value in this way.
I am not interested in coins that were never intended for circulation to actually buy, but if one does come by way of pocket change, I will keep it. Have found two NCLT in this way.

I've in South-East Queensland and I seem to see more ACTs and Victorias than anything. Don't see many Norfolk Islands though.

I'm also from SE Qld and haven't come across any in my change lately but last week I noodled two $10 bank rolls of 50c coins and in one roll I found these three. ... and as an added bonus, these two were in the same roll. ... while the other roll had nothing of interest ... go figure!

Actually I checked and WA is the least common (I was only talking 20c pieces).
The 50c pieces while scarce do appear more regularly for whatever reason (average of 2 per $100 worth of rolls).

Quote: hi guys I am a little confused as to cleaning the green off coins do I do this or not I always do. For circulation cupro-nickel I use vinegar but for anything made of copper or worth anything use mechanical means (a toothpick, or a needle very carefully).

Quote: I always do. Same here, usually a dash of detergent in a Ultrasonic Cleaner for a few minutes is enough, for stubborn marks dash of Baking Soda as well. Unless its a rare/valuable Coin where Pro. attention is required its best to clean it off.
