By all accounts, this rendition of the Charter Oak is truer to what the tree actually looked like. The tree fell in 1856 by a storm, and the painting used as the 'model' for this issue was painted in 1857. It's interesting what can be of historic significance.

Quote: that eagle is something to behold as well Indeed .... the 2nd Art Deco eagle by Henry G. Kreis. Refer back to my comments on the 1936 Bridgeport half dollar. Here is mine in honestly circulated state: 1935 Connecticut Tercentenary Half - PCGS VF35 Enjoy

Nickelsearcher - I have to ask - where do you find these really circulated commems? At shows? And do you have the good fortune of purchasing them for low prices?
Coronet - Love that 65. I've got to say that looks like it's a candidate for the green bean. Nice luster. The eagle is always so hard to find without prominent nicks and scratches. Yours did just that. Congratulations on an excellent collection inclusion.

Yours is a show stopper Worn Out. Exceptionally lovely toning. Muddler, as always, has a great example, too. We've been doing great with some beautiful eye candy.

Another monster Deco eagle. I wouldn't last long at a TPG because I would have just given this a 65 or better on principle.

Quote: Nickelsearcher - I have to ask - where do you find these really circulated commems? Its been a nearly 10 year quest now using all avenues available to me ... on-line actions, shows, friends referrals, etc. The pursuit of the classic silver commemorative series in honestly circulated condition is indeed a quest ...requiring collecting passion and perseverance ... and somewhere in this forum is a multi page thread discussing my finally successful efforts to complete the 50 coin circulated type set. Also have a complete type set in PCGS MS/CAC holders ... choosing for this thread to only show the circulated coins ... as they are seldom seen. Enjoy
