The set is selling slower than I expected. I guess the higher cost compared to last year's EU set has contributed to the sales thus far.

The extra plastic underneath is a single layer molded to hold the coins in place. There is no bottom to it so the coins can be pushed out, so not sealed at all.

Thanks for the update TreeMonkey

I've got to admit that when I opened up the lens earlier I saw the plastic on the obverse but I didn't try to pop a coin out. I did try and separate the plastic into a front and back, but couldn't. I guess I just assumed there was a backing like for the blister packs.

Well, my 2 sets came in today. Toning spots on obverse of the Lincolns, a series of small scratches (looks like a scuff) on one of the quarters, fuzz on one of the Kennedy half dollars, blackish marks on reverse of one of the quarters. Sounds like a lot of reports of poor quality, why bother sending back only to gamble that the replacement isn't even worse.

Because you paid for problem free sets and you won't have them if you don't make the effort. I'd keep sending them back 10 times if that's what it took.

Over and over again until you do it. Your albums will thank you.

These may be around for a couple more months. I figure the sales will continue to dwindle as the weeks go by and may even offset with returns from those who were looking for a quick flip and/or quality concerns.

I received my set in the mail today and I love it! I'm so happy I decided to purchase it, because it's absolutely stunning! Even the packaging, with the raised and glossed image of the Golden Gate Bridge, is very nice. There appears to be a few small pieces of lint or something inside the case above the half dollar, so I'll need to open it up and remove those. Otherwise, I'll enjoy looking at this set for a long time.

I have mine in hand now -- this is a spectacular set. Buy it now fresh from the Mint, buy it on the secondary market, buy it slabbed --- one way or another, just buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Good observation on the packaging, CollegeBarbers.

I purchased a set and just got it in the mail yesterday. I am very impressed with the quality. I looked real close and I don't see any kind of imperfections or anything. My favorite out of the bunch has to be the Half Dollar, hands down. The frosted fields on the half look very nice....well they all look nice, but you get the idea. I will sometimes display coins under my TV, so they are in my view. This set is currently residing in my designated "display" area.

This is my approach as well.

Enjoy seeing them in individual Danscos by denomination.

I also like having my eagle album of modern proofs sets from the beginning, still in their lens.

As I started earlier, I bought two sets the first day of sale; one at noon and the second three hours later. One was delivered last Saturday but the other isn't now expected until THIS Saturday. Three hours difference = one extra week of delivery. Ugg!
