Are these notes polymer? Or paper?
My understanding is that a vertical note is easier to notice from a till than a horizontal note. I have no problem with horizontal notes as it is how it is with notes for years and years.

@Paisa I have seen FTY out here in Alberta as well. In fact, I have a few in my possession which I had prior to obtaining the FTZ prefix.

@Carrigna All new banknote issues in Canada are now polymer. However, this is the first vertical note that the Bank of Canada has issued.

Hey guys I am still trying to get used to the vertical political correctness on this bill lol I am a TD customer and I was using the atm....by the way I love the option TD has on their atm machines where it allows you to pick your currency from 5/10/20/50/100 I needed to withdraw 40 dollars all in 10's... ( spending money ) They all came as the new VD bill ...then I decided to withdraw again 200 all in tens and they all came as the VD bill.... I then decided to withdraw another 300 all in tens and they also came as the VD bill. FTZ prefix GTA branch I was super excited I figured I have $540 in tens and maybe they are all consecutive...but I think the staff at the Brinks when they deposit the money they intentionally remove certain bills to break the sequence pattern. The most consecutive run I have is maybe 4/5 ( darn brinks staff ! )

The most consecutive run I have is maybe 4/5 ( darn brinks staff ! ) I have no idea where the "consecutive # = higher BV" myth started but I can assure you it is irrelevant. In fact, most of serious collectors (& dealers) will expect a discount on consecutive # notes. The only time this rule might be broken is: on consecutive radars: (example: 1142411; 1143411 and 1144411) or consecutive older series such as 1935/1937 and perhaps DF 1954 notes Don't mean to burst your bubble, but I have picked up several discounted consecutive notes (including radars & inserts). A collector from the CPMF suggested that the "consecutive # = higher BV" myth started years ago when collectors figured that consecutive # runs meant "original UNC" (but that is also a myth) which seems logical. "darn brinks staff" also it has come to light that there are many gaps in the serial numbering of notes since 2017 (so while bank staff are known to shuffle notes- it may not be them responsible).

Sure sounds good. I'll keep that in mind. I don't collect banknotes as much as I do coins. Always learning something new thanks to this community!
Now let me ask, what should I do with this "surplus" money? Are they worth collecting? How many were printed? Will there be other banknotes on a horizontal design? And how long will Viola Desmond be on the banknote? Is she only on this note or will she appear on others?
Sorry for a lot of questions. Main one would be how many were printed and are they worth collecting. The ones I have are mint! Yes they were handled but no folds...- choice uncirculated -?

E And how long will Viola Desmond be on the banknote? Ei Is she only on this note or will she appear on others? .. F) Yes they were handled but no folds...- choice uncirculated -? [I've inserted "A;B;.." to help answer your questions] A) It's entirely up to you what to do with your surplus money - if your intention is to start a paper money collection then I'd suggest you hold onto them until you can attend a local coin/paper money show and spend it on something more collectible. (or bank 'em & shop online- but best to go TPG so you know what you're buying -grade wise) B) We don't really know how collectible these are (read on) C) 10,000,000 is a typical run for each BOC prefix. It is likely that your FTZ prefix will be a full run but it also may be a short run (so may be worth holding on to). World note collectors like first prefixes (FTW) To learn more about what type of note is most collectible- check out this forum and learn about special numbers (such as radars, low#, repeaters, ladders, etc). D) It is likely that future BOC series will have vertical designs. It is likely that the CBN co who printed them retooled their machines somewhat to print them that way- so vertical should be the norm for the next couple of series (however they could also revert to the horizontal design). It will have no bearing on the BV (book value) of the notes E) I cannot predict the longevity of any particular banknote series. The 1937 lasted 17 years; 1954 last 15; and the 2013 $10 only lasted 5 -so the trend would appear that their lifespans are shrinking. Ei) I doubt she'll appear on others F) The condition of your note is uncirculated if the notes have not been circulated but it is impossible to speculate on what degree (UNC; Choice UNC or GEM UNC). They have had bank/ATM transfer handling so unlikely GEM.

Much appreciated all of the answering along with the information shared! I think I will hold on to them and see how the FTZ series turns out. It could be a short series or maybe full.
I have only seen a few and they do appear - choice unc 64 -. Are they disqualified for Eligibility for EPQ designation?
No special prefixes that I think will show up on my short run.

I m wondering if the atm/bank handling disqualifies them ?
