I'm new to this forum so hoping this post comes out correctly. The reason I'm posting is I am hoping to get some input from folks more experienced in mint errors, especially with the 20 cent piece.
I recently acquired this coin and have what appears to be the S/S OMM error that I hear is not too uncommon with these coins. But I also have noticed is the obverse is clearly off center, which may be the cause for the good amount of finning along the top of the coin.
Any information about how rare these errors are, condition of the coin, and how these things would effect value and grading especially if an attribute can be assigned. Thanks in advance for any help!
To my experience, the S/S mintmarks are fairly common. I've owned a few over the years. I don't see this error or the slightly misaligned dies commanding any premium. That said, this is a most pleasing looking type coin!
Thanks for the input! I had a sneaky suspicion that it was cleaned once I got it in hand. Then I read the reviews of the seller and found he's got a history of cleaning/modifying coins and selling them under false pretenses. Apparently has had more than one complaint filed in the past for it. Still, I'm pleased to have one of these coins with such detail left.
