1919 Mercury Dime Rotated Reverse - Coin Community Forum

uclabrat New Member United States 21 Posts	Posted 03/12/2018 7:11 pm I recently purchased a set of coins from a pawn shop, and found something interesting with which I am not familiar. As an amateur numismatist, I'm sure there is quite a bit with which I am unfamiliar! What I found is a 1919 Mercury dime whose obverse and reverse are not lined up appropriately. In fact, I'd say they are approximately 15 degrees offset. The dime is mounted in a cardboard/Mylar holder so you can see the relative positions. I have attached images of the obverse and reverse, as well as an image of me holding the coin over a mirror so you can see that I didn't switch out the reverse image for another dime I had mounted in a holder at an angle. Does anyone know of this error? Haven't found anything online. Is this special and valuable? It's in fairly poor condition (about G-4 by my estimate), so I'm not expecting much. Thanks!
