paulCT, coin is not mine, but unfortunately is being sold at an auction, and no one notice the "hair fringe" differences on a real one.
Rest in Peace

Not a recent fake, I don't believe, but still a fake.

The coin is one I have seen many times. It is a numismatic forgery. It is definitely not a circulating counterfeit but rather one made to sell to collectors. In hand the coin has the earmarks of a Chinese forgery but I have no proof of that origin. It may simply be a local Italian forgery but it is no more than 40 years old.

pirgah As I have aged I find I need a microscope more than I ever did and the screen on my laptop has gotten too small. So I connected the laptop to a 42 inch TV set that I have wall mounted over my desk.

All you might need is a good quality TV with as high a pixilation as possible. I did not spend a fortune but it really helps a lot.
