When Grading a coing like this. Does the full stalks make it worth more. Just curious how this coin would grade out. *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Full stalks and wheat lines are contributable when grading a Wheat cent ,but not the only factor . JUST having full stalks is not enough to increase value of the coin .

I have just noticed I put this in the wrong Forum...Guess it should have been put in the Forum where everyone is learning. So what else needs to be better.

Quote: I have just noticed I put this in the wrong Forum Don't stress about that. When it happens, you can ping the mods to help you move your thread to the right spot by hitting the link in the bottom right that says "report this post to the staff". Most of the time it seems like they take care of it within one minute, but sometimes it takes a little longer. I'll take care of letting the mods know about this one, but now you know for next time.

Just remember, there is a dividing line, circulated and uncirculated. In circulated has no wear on the high areas, a minimum of contact hits and dings, original mint luster called "cartwheel". Full tip wheat stalks come into play grade-wise in determining F10 to VF 20 mostly. There are many more fine points of grading, studying pix of actual grades is a must in learning, studying LOTS OF COINS too. It is an art perfect over much time.

AU-58 which means that it's circulated for a very short time.

Maybe a faint spot on cheek and top of shoulder. If that's the case though what about the spot in middle of ear next to hair? If that's wear that not make it ef? I see NONE on reverse making me think obverse is contact marks or bag marks

Evidence of wear by toning pattern, rub on wheat lines, cheek, jaw and lapel.

Guess I need more practice. I thought it was just toning bc the discoloration I see covers the whole portrait. Thanks badthad

Learn to judge the luster first. A mint state coin will have cartwheel luster. As you move the coin the spokes of the cartwheel rotate around the fields. Look at a full red mint state coin, even a 2018 will work. Hold it directly below a light, like a desk lamp - the way the light dances off the coin tells a lot.
If you hold your coin under that same light - you'll see the luster in the fields, especially the obverse, is a bit fuzzy or almost missing compared to your reference coin.
Good Luck
