The part of that bill that amazes me is the bullion coins they want to produce.....have a diameter of 3.0 inches and weigh 5.0 ounces. So each one would resemble each quarter design.

That would be one expensive set to collect.

I would vote no.

I want to go back to the good ole days where you run a single design for 25 years then change it.

The Lincoln Penny is in its 100th year of circulation
The Jefferson nickel is in its 70th year of circulation.
The Roosevelt dime is in its 62nd year of circulation.
Washington quarter is in its 76th year of circulation.

Plus, its a scam for congress because like the article said, for every coin collected the govt nets 21 cents. Also, think about the Presidential dollar series they have going, the westward nickel program, Lincoln Penny issues for next year, and the soon to be completed Statehood Quarter program. It just seems the govt is exploiting this like they did to stamp collecting.

I don't know about another 10 year program, but I'm glad they've started changing our coins. Other than the bicentennial quarter, nothing changed in 40 years. The penny is changing next year, the nickel changed a couple years ago. It's time to change the dime.

Better start a quarter collection with the standard eagle reverse now, because they will be hard to find in just a few years
Like I said, my 1932-1998 set is complete.

Quote:
I'll be honest, it seems we may never see the quarter return to the old design.
I do not want it to. I like having a complete set! But I might prefer having a single design change to run 25 years or so.

Quote:
If we don't return to the old Washington design, it will just enhance the value of the 1932-1998 issues

Washington Quarter is in its 76th year of circulation.
IMHO, it only ran 67 years (1932 to 1998) and then was replaced with a 10/11 year SHQ/TQ version.

I will be the first to admit, that the old Washington design was a little boring to look at. The Quarter needs a facelift, but I don't see putting National Parks on the reverse, as the answer. The State Quarter program was a huge success by itself, but that wasn't enough for the government, then they added DC and territories. Now we might have a reverse depicting a national park? I just don't get it. IMHO, If the government needs to do something with a coin, then they should look at the Roosevelt dime.

I agree. It is the longest running continuous design (obverse and reverse) at this time.

I hope they don't do this, or I'm just going to stop collecting moderns. This is ridiculous. I can't wait for their next series "Gas Station Rest Stops Off the United States Highway System 2016-2055. Collect all 1,488! Only from the United States Mint."

That's funny, Amazon 99 about rest stop quarters. We could call them Squatties. I like the new British coins

Those look pretty good to me. Yes, I agree with someone else, we need to revamp some of our coins, and not just keep going with these series things so people will hsve all these worthless collections - unless you collect the silver ones, but still, they jack the prices up.
But we shouldn't complain. These series of currency may be the final ones we get. I know the gov has talked about doing away with coinage altogether. But, I guess if they're making money on it, they'll keep on doing it. Just need to know what is worth collecting, and what ain't. The Modern commemoratives sure are going up in value - esp. the Jackie Robinson and some of the others.

The last thing
"they" want is the Washington quarter- it is a throw back to when REAL money circulated, and America had wealth and value. The last thing the bankSTERS want is you thinking how your labor MIGHT be worth gold or silver- they prefer bank notes of debt vs. real wealth.

Myself, I've seen better SLUGS on the NYC subway compared to the trash I see being called money these days. Call me an old man, but trash is trash.

Bring back the DOLLAR, abolish the "federal" reserve.

Hopefully never!

Okay, the State Quarter thing was cool, Westward Journey nickels were okay, Prez Dollars are probably a flop but it's still too early to tell, and we have the Lincoln Cent program next year. Enough already!

Veering off this topic and onto the ongoing Lincoln Cent Debate, here is an interesting quote from your link:

Quote:
Fascinating also is the clearly implicit commitment for the next several years at least to persist minting the increasingly pointless 1p and 2p coins, which since about 1995 even small children have been throwing away in the street when given them in change. My guess is that you could power a biggish town for a year on all the wasted time and effort that is consumed needlessly handling and processing these coppers. (The slang term coppers derives from pre-decimalisation days when pennies and ha'pennies were more substantial and popular copper coins. Since 1992 'copper' coins are copper-plated steel.)

We (the US) are not alone!
