Newguy - you shouldn't avoid buying rolls of coins if you think/know that they may have variety/errors. It may end up a good investment. Just do your homework...pay what you can or feel that they are worth. Would you pass paying $8 on a roll of BU 1959D nickels if you knew they were a sought variety? You might make your money back on the first few coins.
Bottom line: it's great to get lucky and snag a roll of fine coins for face value from the bank, but it's not the only way to acquire fine coins (at a fair price) that you may want for your personal collection or trade. Good luck on the hunt!
