I know just enough about confederate tokens to be dangerous,, I do however know that there are quite a few different ones ,with different rarities and values !
If you could add pics to your question, CWtokenman I'm sure could help !!

I spent about 2 hours searching google and found almost nothing about genuine Confederate Civil War era Tokens. Apparently, only a few are known. Here is a link to a site that at least mentions a few in a Museum collection. Mike http://www.dwhm.org/byronreed/4.asp

If you can post a pic or very detailed description, it would help.

Happy New Year ND! Are they as rare as they appear to be? I know many Union States and cities produced store and other merchant tokens because of coin shortages and lots of fractional currency, but it seems the Confederacy did very little or not many survived. What is your opinion on this? Thanks, Mike

They are indeed quite rare. From all accounts, the Confederate States of America had little supply of anything, including metals. The metals obtained by the fallen mints of Dahlonega, Charlotte, and New Orleans were not used in any quantity. Paper money flourished for the first few years, which was a strong contrast to the North, where no one believed in using currency.
On occasion, a southern token will come to market, but as far as I can find out, there are NO known numbers indicating how many survive to this day.

That there were even a few southern tokens made is new news to me.
Have never even heard of one. Would love to see a photo of any in existance, even if in a museum somewhere.
Anyone have more info regarding this most fascinating story?

Hi coinquest
To upload an Image to an existing thread, select reply to this thread from the dropdown bottom left of the last post in the thread, click the attachment Icon below the dialog box, for a jpg file it cannot be over 100kb, but the forum seems to like 60 or a little less, select browse, choose your file, and click upload, do not preview the post as this will delete your attachment, just post the new reply.
If you continue to have problems let me know.

Sorry I'm really new at forums. I'll give it a try. Did this work? Still not working, and couldn't find the drop down in the lower left.

It my original answer, I posted a link to a museum that has some on display. I could not get a picture, but there was info on how to contact them about the items on sisplay. The collection was donated by a fellow named Byron Reed(see link below). Here's the link to the museum that houses a partial display of his collection. If you run a google search you will find them "mentioned" as being rare, but no pic's that I could find! Mike http://www.dwhm.org/byronreed/4.asphttp://www.icgcoin.com/p991220.htm
