1880-CC 3RD Reverse Question!! - Coin Community Forum

SuperPoacher74 Valued Member United States 115 Posts	Posted 05/27/2018 7:59 pm Is this coin an 8/high 7? It's showing a small nodule on their neath the 2nd 8. Which is exactly how it shows in and 8 over high 7 in the Red Book pictures. I'm just looking for clarification as to what variety. Any help would be appreciated.. Report this Post to the Staff

jmwilson Valued Member 240 Posts	Posted 05/29/2018 1:29 pm I see what looks like the bottom of the 7 just under and below the second 8 (dash under 8). The VAM link provided by dave700x seem to match the coin you have. However, the image in the RedBook appears to have something left over from the 7 that is beneath the second 8 (in the upper loop of the second 8). I don't see that in your coin or the coin shown in the VAM link. Report this Post to the Staff

I believe the OP coin to be a VAM-3 which is not the over-date obverse die in the photo posted. It is a so called dash 8 which can be found throughout the series up to at least 1885.
