Good day, I would like to know the opinion of those specialized in "Grading Coins" in this Forum, if this 1916-D Mercury dime could be placed in the "Extra-Fine" (XF) Grade, despite being a bit "chewed-up" ... or, Very-Fine" (maybe)? ... What do you think? Please advise, Thank you Edited by danbogdan777 08/02/2018 10:15 am

Welcome to the Community!
No chance it would straight grade XF (or any other grade) by any of the major grading services. There is way too much damage.

Wow! If it is a real coin... this is one of the most HIGHLY faked counterfeits produced. No, as WS said, won't straight grade, would receive a "details" grade of possibly VF if not body-bagged as ungradeable. TPGs would at least prove authenticity if nothing else.
Where'd you get it an for how much. If less than $100, it's probably a known fake. That's THE key date for the series, only one I lack.

Looks like a counterfeit to me. It has a cast appearance and what looks like Chinese artificial toning.

DOesn't look legit to me etheir. It looks like a fake coin. It also wouldn't get the XF grade, do to too much damage and circulation wear.
Errers and Varietys.

0% chance it will grade as a genuine XF '16-D. Less than a 1% chance it would grade as a genuine 1916-D Mercury dime.

This ebay seller has no other coins for sale and has never sold a coin based on sold listings so I'm inclined to think they have no idea that it's a fake. The listing should still be nuked however...

Definately counterfeit. Looks like someone has beat up on it to hide any markers. Hope you didn't buy it.
