Hi everyone, I was given this Sasanian era coin, but other than that I have no information regarding it. I'd love to find out more information such as the name of the king dedicated on the front of the coin. Additionally, are there any good sources out there that would help a novice like me get more acquainted with ancient Persian coins? I'm mostly interested in coins from the Sasanian era. I've googled for books on this topic but my google search came up with books that were either insanely expensive or out of print. I'd love any recommendations. Thank you! *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

@radial, first welcome to CCF. Second, a great (and free) resource for Sasanian coins is here: https://www.beastcoins.com/Sasanian/Sasanian.htmThe Pahlavi inscription and crown are clear enough that you should be able to get all the information that you need. If you want to post your assessment, we have folks here who would be happy to confirm.

Hi everyone,
thank you so much for the replies and your help! It's so nice to finally have this coin identified. @spence, thank you so much for that link. I haven't taken a full look at it yet but it looks like it has everything I need! This is a very valuable resource indeed!
I have one last question, I have seen a lot of ancient Persian coins for sale on VCoins. I know the dealers on VCoins are bound by a contract to only sell genuine artifacts, but I can't help but wonder if that contract strictly followed? Are there any third party vendors that would help verify the authenticity of a coin should you ever be suspicious that you have bought a counterfeit coin? This is the only dilemma that is basically making me weary of making any coin purchase on my own. I'd appreciate any advice and please let me know if I should post this question on a separate thread. Thanks again!

If you take a look at the section Books, Downloads, and websites you will find all the information that you are looking for. There is a lot of expertise here that came help with saying if it's a real coin or not. There are no companies that will verify a coin that you intend to buy.
David Sear certifies ancient coins for a fee, you send the coin to him and he examines it and issues a certificate.

I'm pretty sure David Sear will also certify ancient coins for a fee. Sorry Ron (and @bobby)--sometimes I'm only twelve years old.

Just saw that Dave, it's these fat fingers of mine. Though I'm sure for the right person he might consider that also.
