I know, I know. Somebody will call this PMD. I respectfully submit that it is not PMD. It is Post-Mint Improvement (PMI). An otherwise boringly normal 1982-D Jefferson nickel would hardly attract any attention. It would just be worth five cents, and would wander through meaningless transactions until it was eaten by a couch.

Still not convinced? Where can you buy a small, lightweight, strong, fully operational stubby slot screwdriver for five cents?

May I present to you the Jefferson Screwdriver . . .

Now somebody with a vise and extra time needs to invent the Phillips version . . .

The area is wider than the outer edge area, so it wasn't struck that way.

Take a file and straighten out the edge. Should work better as a screwdriver at that point. Then drill a hole in the opposite end to put it on a keychain.
Rest in Peace
