Hey guys. Can anybody help on this medal. Edge is plain with no writing. It's about the size of a half dollar and a tad thicker. Writing looks southeast Asian Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia etc, not sure which. The right helmet looks American as it has a single star. Maybe not though. Looks WWII-ish. Maybe something commemorating the help the 14th Air Force Fighting Tigers in the Chinese/India/Burmese theater before we entered the war and after? Just spitballing here. I'm probably wrong but if anyone can help or at least translate the writing I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
The chrysanthemum between the eagle's wings is the imperial seal of Japan used by the emperor. I can't read the inscription but I'd bet that this item is a medal associated with the US occupation of Japan after WWII.
The helmets with the anchor and star are the badges of and represent the Japanese navy and army. ( At that time there was no separate air force, the other two services having their own air branch ).
.. any significance that it's missing the ribbon & suspension retiredkper? None other than it is incomplete and worth less than it would be if it was complete.
Thanks guys. RK, I'm not following. Incomplete? This was obviously a design used with no damage other than the hole. Whatcha mean by incomplete? And what you're saying is the design "with" the ribbon and suspension is more valuable?
Thanks RK! That also explains why the hole on mine is so uniform and crisp like it was drilled with a modicum of precision. Just something that crossed my mind initially.
