Just thought that I would ask this question to see what opinions are out there. Would you consider a full set of this series to have to include a single proof half dollar even though one is included in the half set? I keep debating on whether I should get one or not myself and figured I would see what other think to add to my dilemma.

I would say technically yes, but most will probably disagree. It's really up to you

I will be buying a PR69DCAM saucer in a PCGS holder with TrueView when one becomes available for cheap. I have no interest whatsoever in any modern coin in PR70. I only buy 69s now, and I'm lovin' every dollar-savin' minute of it.

Do you want to collect the coins or do you want to collect the coins plus all the original government packaging options they came in? My personal opinion is that I do like the OGP, but I draw the lines at the coins themselves. If you can't tell a difference by looking at the coins, then they're the same. In the case of these commemoratives, I bought the half dollar set to get the proof Apollo 11 half dollar and I also bought the uncirculated Apollo 11 half dollar.

Quote: PS, I also wanted to mention that I saw on the Coin Collector show that THIS 5 oz beauty in a PF 70 slab is being sold, by them for $899.99. Interesting price and twice that of the last one sold on the Bay

I appreciate the feedback from basebal21 and Bret. The reason that I hadn't ordered the proof half was because I already have it in my half set. I think that it is the collector in me looking for completeness that is eating away at me on whether I should get the proof half on its own.

The only reason I got the half proof was to use as a golf ball marker.

The status for the half dollar set has been changed from 'sold out' to 'currently unavailable'.
They must have had a lot of returns lately - at least judging by the weekly sales figures (bottom one most recent): 99440 99016 98912 98755

Hi all! I'm new here but in the past I was only reading and thanks to all for the great information.
I really like the Apollo coins. Although there are nearly no differences between a 69 and 70, I can see that 69 pieces (especially gold proof) are sold below the issue price. Is it really that bad? I don't understand why people sell below issue price. I intend to buy some 69 coins, although someone offered me a PCGS PR70 First Day gold for $535.
What do you think about hand signed PCGS labelled Apollo coins? Or should I spend more money on that?
Thanks

smile4art, welcome! You're going to have to decide if you want to collect the coins or the coins in 3rd party certified slabs, possibly with special labels and signatures.

Thanks Bret.
Yeah, difficult decision. I think I will go for 69 graded pieces if they are below issue price.
