If the Apollo coins were to be found down the road say a few years after slabbed, and necrotic blotches were later found, WHY would people still be so adamant about people not wearing gloves. I mean, We as collectors should do Our best to be sure the $$$ paid to the same people grading coins are done so with EVERY precaution they could, being they are called professionals, no.... My Opinions here, I simply have not ever seen such claims like this, that the TPG'S are doing their best as pro's, when logic and common sense would dictate that wearing a mask and gloves would at least show their intentions are the best, NO!! I sure hope, I do not intend to grade any of this series, that My coins are all in the same shape in a few years as they are now......... PS, They usually are.....

Quote: I'm talking about the black spots that sometimes develop on proofs. I've had US proofs in OGP that developed a haze as time passed, but have never had a US coin that developed a milk spot Than you're lucky. Because it has nothing to do with wearing gloves... Quote: Please take no offense, but your claim that "gloves do more harm than good" is just patently absurd. No it's not. Every seated coin, barber, merc, bust coin, and ancient coin etc would be ruined if you were right.

I agree that handling them by the rim with bare fingers isn't a problem as they've already been touched many times (I'd still wash my hands though). The modern proofs and uncs marketed to collectors, sold by the mint and graded by the ton by 3rd party grading services are the coins I'm talking about.

Quote: I'm not talking about classic circulated coins. I wasn't either. Yet the MS ones should all be ruined by lack of masks if what you say is true. By the way, CAC is in a league of it's own for acceptance.

Very few are white like modern coins. This is understandable because the tools and packaging we have now were not readily available back then. People often attempted to clean these old mint state coins in order to fix the unsightly appearance, which more often than not made the situation worse.

I'm not trying to embarrassing someone so I will leave it here, but that said there can often be a case of learning some and thinking they know everything.
