The half dollar set will sell out quickly. The rest may not sell out.

I have a feeling the 5 oz will sell out. Even with a HH limit of 5 the bulk buyers will find a way around it, get them graded and flip before the hype dies down.

We did until they decided to bend the puck. Now its much more like your sushi soy sauce dish than a hockey puck

ha -- In 100 years it might be en vogue to use these Apollo saucers as soy sauce dishes - especially if silver doesn't get out of the teens before then!

With the announcement of the joint Australian coin. Is the US half dollar with that set included in the total mintage or will that increase the total number minted?

Quote: Is the US half dollar with that set included in the total mintage or will that increase the total number minted? PL 114-282 limits the mintage of the half dollar to 750,000. That's for all package types (single half dollars, half dollar set, set w/ Australian coin) and finishes (prf and unc). It doesn't matter how many different ways the Mint decides to market the coin, the mintage can't exceed what's authorized in the PL when it's all added up. I wouldn't worry though, the final mintage won't be anywhere close to 750,000

Correct me if I'm wrong but the half dollar set is limited to 100,000, so only 100,000 enhanced reverse proof Kennedy halves. The Apollo clad is 750,000 across all options. His makes that Kennedy half that much more desirable.

Quote: Correct me if I'm wrong but the half dollar set is limited to 100,000... That's right. 100,000 of the 750,000 Apollo halves could be (will be if the set is a sell out) in the set with the Kennedy half dollar. Once again, the Mint is using a marketing tactic of pairing a commemorative coin with another item (last year it was pairing the WWI Ag prf $1 with the service medals) to potentially boost (IMHO) sales of the commemorative coin and the surcharges received for the commemorative. You have to remember that by law the Mint has to make the commemorative half dollar. The Mint is choosing to make the enhanced reverse proof Kennedy half dollar on its own. They are then further choosing to pair it with the commemorative half dollar, when they could have just sold the Kennedy by itself, or included it in a full set like last year. Whether or not this marketing tactic is successful this year really depends upon how many folks who would have bought the single prf Apollo half dollar now opt for the set instead and how many Kennedy half dollar collectors now buy the set. It could be that the set cannibalizes sales of the single prf Apollo half dollar and so doesn't result in an overall increase in prf Apollo half dollar sales OR it could be that the folks buying the half dollar sets wouldn't have otherwise bought the single prf Apollo half dollar resulting in increased sales of the prf Apollo half dollar. I'd bet the latter occurs (there are FAR more Kennedy half dollar collectors than commemorative half dollar collectors), but only time will tell

Precisely...I have no desire in getting the clad Apollo half, but have to because I want the reverse Kennedy. It's actually quite irritating that the mint does this.

Since all the designs matched I only wanted the silver dollars. I had no interest in the half dollar until this set with the special Kennedy was announced. Your point is made.

Hello, I mostly collect ancient coins but sometimes buy moderns. I like to keep a photos folder of coins I buy. I combine the obverse with reverse, etc. so I have one pic per coin. Here's the Apollo 11 proof gold, proof 5oz silver, proof silver dollar. I want to buy the silvers but can't afford the gold right now.
