biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 07/28/2008 11:10 pm Thats is a pretty massive lamination, you lost half the obverse Laminations do not usually have much of a premium but that one would certainly be desirable to someone who wanted it as a severe example of that type of error. The striated, streaked pattern with peeling layers of metal is a key indicator of lamination. Report this Post to the Staff

foundinrolls Pillar of the Community United States 3507 Posts	Posted 07/29/2008 1:28 pm Definitely a lamination error. I would also categorize this coin as a split planchet error with about 45% of the obverse effected by the split. Another thing that makes this coin interesting is that you can use the same coin to explain a lamination error and at the same time, you can visually see what a split planchet looks like.
