All three of these coins are exactly the same, and from the same roll. looks like a die crack to me, one long one below liberty , and one small one below that,
I don't know what the heck went wrong on the liberty and the mint mark, also the first "5" has an issue. Help would be appreciated. thanks

Again just die chips. Eye catching but normal. Also not cracks, polishing line or die gouge.

Hi,

They look more like the effects of a coin being struck by a die with small gouges. If the lines are raised, gouges.

They do not appear to be die chips.

Thanks,
Bill

Are they worth hanging on to? I like the fact that I found more than one, is that common?

That's pretty cool to see three coins from what appears the same die!

Very common to find the same dies coins in a BU OBW roll. You get a sample of the coin made from that run. I bought a roll once with 17 from the same die and it is a RPM. So it happens on OBW rolls. Tubes can be mixed and circulated coins would probably never have coins from the same die pair, unless they were deliberately put there.

They are still BU coins so they are worth more than melt. So I would put them away safe from fingerprints and environmental damage.

Bill, I'm confused now. Under the BE of liberty and the top bar of the 5, What tips you off that these are small die gouges rather than small breaks in the die ?

They are die cracks/chips/breaks in a progression from the crack in that area. After the crack is striking several more coins, then a chip develops and later a break. Not a BIE, but the result from the same thing that makes a BIE. The difference is location, not how they develop.

Hi coop,

My fault for not paying attention to those small dots which of course are die chips. I was focused on the two raised lines in the field behind Lincoln and below LIBERTY. Thanks for keeping me on my toes:-)

Have Fun,
Bill

Bill: Don't feel alone, I focused on the Die scratches/gouges first also. It was after a second look that I noticed the chips. It's not that I didn't see them, it is just that I thought everyone else knew. So the response to the BIE question. All learn here and their knowledge is just honed in by questions asked.
