Just picked up my first 2 boxes of half-dollar coins and darn they way a lot!

Anyways, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to unload all of these after I go through them.

Anyone done this large amount as a return before? Should I reroll them? Put them all in a water jug? Only return x dollars amount at a time?

Re-roll and take back to the bank. Or unless you need an Amazon card or can eat a 13% fee go to coinstar.

Yeah I'm not going to coinstar, what a rip-off. So I should re-roll them and take them back to the bank? They will accept them rolled?

Do NOT take them back to the bank you got them from. They will NEVER order for you again. I spend all of the halves I get. I only get them in 50-100 dollar batches though, so try spending as many as you can in place of bills or the credit card. We have a thread where we keep track of what we spend in halves towards a goal of $100,000. Link here: http://goccf.com/t/247499 Other than that, some banks have coin deposit machines and many grocery stores have coinstars. (Coin stars DO charge a fee unless you get payment in gift cards)

jflournoy, you should have thought of how to re-deposit the halves before ordering the halves. Call several banks and ask them how a large volume of coin is accepted, and whether or not there is a fee for loose versus rolled coin deposits.

Spend them at a Gas Store, I easily buy between $ 20.00 to $ 40.00 a week in gas. If you eat out , pay your bill in Halves, even $ 5.00 meals they should go Fast and buy your groceries. And all the suggestion's above , but not the Bank you got them thru.

Do NOT return the coin to where you got them. That gives you and the rest of us a bad name, and can get you cut off when they're tired of it.

They did extra work ordering them, don't make them do extra work taking them back. They are not required to give you coins.

Take them to a different branch at the very least. Open an account at a different company if possible. Especially if they use different services to deliver coins, so you won't get them back as quickly.

I've only tried CRH once with halves, and got them from a bank. I didn't find any silver, but found a few very nice halves that were high AU, close to MS. anyway, I took them back to my credit union, a different place where I got them, and they charge me a small fee to turn them back in! I think I had a few hundred dollars worth, I think they took 1% for the house LOL

The best way? Bag them loose in $500 bundles and turn them in to the vault teller. Get cash back immediately. Takes me less than a minute or two.

Like others mentioned, never take them back where you bought them, even if they say it's ok. Also, when asking for loose halves, always buy them all. Never cherry pick.

Normally, hunters that search halves set up a dumping routine where they have a branch or more that houses a coin counter. I can dump $1,000 in halves and be out the door with cash back in about ten minutes or less. It's a no-brainer.

Use the half dollars as your walking around money and spend them: coffee, lottery tickets, anything that's a couple bucks.

FWIW: In all my years of spending half dollars only two people ever gave them a second look. One woman (in Iowa) complained "What am I supposed to do with this?" when I paid with a half dollar, and a woman (in Florida) thought they were dollar coins and had to check with her boss (the boss knew what they were).

Anyway, it's fun, and a box of half dollars spends very quickly.

Do as GrapeCollects suggests. That would be the smartest way.
