it'll join the 49-D LWC I found the other night..

i also found a couple handy items along the way last night..

always good to have extras of both of those..

Just catching up on this thread...finding $60 in paper money would be a dream day for me!

I found $3.82 on Wednesday, not including my first proof quarter! I was running my hand through a vending machine return slot and pulled out a dollar worth of quarters and then noticed one of them was a proof, and I got to explain to a few peers what proof coins are too - maybe they'll be checking their change now too. ;)

Thursday I found $2.12, and yesterday I found $1.90.

It's 11 AM Central on Saturday as I write this, and I was in the right place at the right time for a record jackpot this morning about two hours ago. I still can't believe it myself! There was a guy collecting the change being dispensed by a vending machine that seemed to be malfunctioning and dispensing lots of dimes and nickels. He had about half of the total jackpot in his hand and said he didn't want all of those coins, so I said "I'll take them" and he gave them all to me, and I proceeded to remove the rest from the return slot. The total came out to $4.50: 22 nickels and 34 dimes, if my counting is correct. Add in a quarter and four cents found elsewhere, and I'm already at $4.79 on the day: a new record!

My totals don't include copper cents (which I keep for bullion value) or other collectibles. Occasionally, I do find foreign coins - most recently a 2012 Irish 2 Euro about a month ago. I set aside 10-20 quarters a week for laundry (depending on the weather; winter means wearing heavier clothes and having to do two loads per week instead of one), and the rest goes into a plastic jar and eventually goes into my savings account via my bank's coin counter machine every couple of months.

DiscoLover82, more power to you! I'm glad to see someone else regularly cashing in on errant coins! I haven't yet run into a machine unloading it's coin supply, what a treat! those machines are not to be ignored, as you will see..

...now about last night, speaking of jackpots... maybe it was the moon's current phase, maybe it simply was as DiscoLover82 said, right place right time ... I don't know, i'll just post my score from last night & let you, dear reader, be the judge...

by 2:20am I was in the middle of pedaling my route, all cats having been located & fed by 2am, heading for a small plaza with about Twenty Cents in my pocket... I always stop at a soda machine outside an insurance office at the end of a different plaza, I sometimes pick coins from it's coin return... as I rolled up to the location of the soda machine my eye spotted gleaming discs on the dark pavement in front of me, so I parked my bike and began picking... this was essentially my view:

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money

the soda machine is out of the shot, being hidden behind the generator, you can easily see the machine's light emanating from behind it.. my bike is also out of the shot but you see it's shadow.. the spot on the pavement where my bike's shadow stretches out is where I found those first several coins, and each time I bent over to pick up a coin, I saw more, and more, until I finally saw the jackpot just a few feet away..

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money

someone dumped a bunch of coins right in front of the soda machine I was about to check... worthy of the dancing banana

i got to pickin, and when I finished I called it a night & pedaled home, didn't finish the rest of the route (but I did check the machine before I rolled away; nothing in the coin return)..

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money

a huge pocketful of stuff to go along with my ASE pocket piece.. a sharp eye will note a slightly corroded Wheat cent in the middle of the pile..

Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money
Post-Your-Stories-&-Pix-Of-Found-Money

i scored $3.77 last night.. I haven't done the math yet or any thinking on the numbers, but I believe I scored over ten or eleven bucks on the week, and the cycle is now over $62, maybe.. I thought about posting this before bed, but I was totally out of gas by 3:45am, and I passed out..

it's everywhere, just have to watch for it...

Anyone remember checking the return slots on pay telephones? Ahhhh, great memories of some pretty good finds! I still check them on that rare, rare time that I see a pay telephone or any kind of coin slot! I'm just a big kid!

The last "pay phone" I saw was in the bus station in Beaumont TX more than 10 years ago. Noted it, but just wanted to get my down-on-their-luck-from-a-lifetime-of-bad-decisions acquaintance and leave that place.

Looking good!

I almost for a second thought that ASE was a find and not your pocket piece.

..actually, it was $12.73 on the week , which is great; if the weekly total exceeds $12.25, I have on average found better than $1.75/night.. but I also keep in mind that certain scores- like FRNs or coin dumps- will skew the averages to the upside.. the averages don't really matter, I'm just amusing myself..

Nice jackpot Mr. Pink! I find vending machines have been my most fruitful source of found income.

Saturday's total ended up at $6.10.

Yesterday ended up at $4.92, thanks in large part to a wad of $4 in one-dollar bills, in the same room as the malfunctioning machine from Saturday! That total doesn't count a 1958-D Wheat cent I found on the floor at a convenience store.
