Just catching up on this thread...finding $60 in paper money would be a dream day for me!
I found $3.82 on Wednesday, not including my first proof quarter! I was running my hand through a vending machine return slot and pulled out a dollar worth of quarters and then noticed one of them was a proof, and I got to explain to a few peers what proof coins are too - maybe they'll be checking their change now too. ;)
Thursday I found $2.12, and yesterday I found $1.90.
It's 11 AM Central on Saturday as I write this, and I was in the right place at the right time for a record jackpot this morning about two hours ago. I still can't believe it myself! There was a guy collecting the change being dispensed by a vending machine that seemed to be malfunctioning and dispensing lots of dimes and nickels. He had about half of the total jackpot in his hand and said he didn't want all of those coins, so I said "I'll take them" and he gave them all to me, and I proceeded to remove the rest from the return slot. The total came out to $4.50: 22 nickels and 34 dimes, if my counting is correct. Add in a quarter and four cents found elsewhere, and I'm already at $4.79 on the day: a new record!
My totals don't include copper cents (which I keep for bullion value) or other collectibles. Occasionally, I do find foreign coins - most recently a 2012 Irish 2 Euro about a month ago. I set aside 10-20 quarters a week for laundry (depending on the weather; winter means wearing heavier clothes and having to do two loads per week instead of one), and the rest goes into a plastic jar and eventually goes into my savings account via my bank's coin counter machine every couple of months.
