Quote: from the 'who's laughing now' department: friends & acquaintances listen to me talk about all of this frequently enough. I used to get a lot of eye-rolls, grins, chuckles, odd comments, etc., as though what I'm doing is the weirdest thing ever. those same friends & acquaintances are now asking me about it with some regularity, because I've always pointed out to them that it adds up. hfjacinto and DiscoLover82 would both agree, I'm sure. and the pile of stuff it has provided me is a testament to that. Indeed, I've gotten a few chuckles and goofy looks, and a few other people on a different (non-coin related) website who know about my hobby like to make fun of me for "picking up pennies off the sidewalk" as well - if only they knew how much it added up to. But I've made some friends along my usual route who always ask me about my finds, and I've been able to show off some interesting stuff, primarily some foreign coins to people who've never seen them before. Just yesterday, I found a Canadian dime sitting on top of a Coinstar machine. I've found a couple of Thai coins and a Japanese 1 yen coin recently as well. After a really slow week as a whole (it'll surely improve when all the rich college kids get back from their mansions in Chicago), yesterday I picked up a trio of wild bucks at a sidewalk intersection downtown, which boosted my daily total to an excellent $3.80 American. ("That's enough to buy a candy bar!" pointed out a girl I like talking to who works at a local convenience store that I check daily.) A co-worker told me a secret about checking the one lip in the washing machines at the dorms, where coins apparently like to wind up after falling out of people's pockets - he found over $3 once cleaning those machines on the job one day... (This forum needs a devious grin emoji!)

i didn't need a telescope last night to observe orion's belt, it was easily observable at my feet.. good thing I was looking down, reviewing the shopping list in my hand, or I might have missed it: someone tossed a zincoln & two dimes onto the sidewalk in front of publix, I thought the coins' resemblance to orion's belt was curious... i picked $1.79 last night, plus another bottle of water $36 to go, the gold bug is biting hard...

it's been an unusual year (7 months, actually). if I had found exactly $1/day, by the end of the year I would have $365. the total thru the first 6 months was $365.82, so I've already hit my imagined low-end total for the year after only 6 months. jan-feb-mar-apr were way above average.. may-jun-jul were under the average. I don't expect to hit the $600-mark by the end of the year. I expect i'll end the year in the $525-$575 range.
i'll have more to say later, I'm partly incapacitated today, I'm an unfortunate example of an L4/L5 walking wounded. back issues. a real drag.

Mr. Pink, I absolutely can sympathize with your suffering. I dealt with this for over 8 years. Most lumbar disc issues will resolve themselves within 6 months if you take care of it (no slouching, bending at the hip, or improper lifting). In my case, it started with a bulge but got worse. After the second rupture Doc said "It's time" and I got a prosthetic L4/5. In the intervening years, I went to a physical therapist who used the McKenzie method. It is the only thing that will help - chiropractors will not. Do an online search for it. Look for the book "Treat Your Own Back" by Robin McKenzie (online for < $10). Essentially, it is a way to push the disc back in place, removing pressure from the sciatic nerve. It is just the yoga "Cobra Pose". I promise that it will relieve your symptoms, although not automatically (it will take a few days). Do 10 reps of 10 per day. Surgery is the absolute last resort. And DO NOT USE a heating pad on your back.

i had a surgery in 1994, herniated disk between L4 & L5. the procedure was successful, but left me with a vertebrae that occasionally pops out of place, I imagine by a millimeter or two, hard to say... when that happens my upper half lists to port by a couple degrees. extremely uncomfortable, walking crooked. I have to be very careful about what I do & how I do it. I can still walk, though it's uncomfortable. I can still do things, though a bit more slowly & carefully. riding a bike isn't a problem, but getting on & off the thing can be tricky, same with picking up money off the ground & feeding cats & getting dressed & toweling-off after a shower.. it makes painting & landscaping a challenge, but I show up every day. I take days off as needed, but a lot of the time I just work through the pain. I'm not one for sitting around & doing nothing. ice pack on my back is my number 1 relief, aside from just getting off my feet (lying down, not sitting). over the years I have developed certain ways of flexing myself to get the thing to pop back into place, but it really only works after the inflamed surrounding tissues have had time to cool off. I never use a heating pad, I don't have one anyway, lol.. so that's my kinked spine. been dealing with it for nearly 30 years, it's why I left michigan for key west. I don't have to shovel snow anymore. ..back to pickin'.. I only found seventy-two or -three cents last night, I bailed early after getting the cats fed, because I just wanted off the bike. I'm about $30 away from the target, I have my eye on a 2.5g gold bar.

it adds up! can't say it enough; I broke thru the $160-mark tonight with the $1.34 I picked, all well-scattered change.. it took ten days to get from $150 to $160, so I'm buzzing along on a dollar-a-day average.. $28 to go... time to ice my back before bed...

It does add up, just last month I deposited $16 in change found from walking the dog! The town that I live in has bulk pick up every Monday. When I say bulk, you are allowed to put out your garbage can and 1 more item. There is a well off section by that I walk the dog, I have picked up cameras, brand new all weather car mats, plastic models in the case and other items that I end up selling on ebay. A few weeks ago someone threw out 4 google nests, I sold all 4 for $165 (my take after expenses) on ebay. I used that $165 to get a 1/20 ounce gold Canada coin and a 1 ounce silver maple leaf. Alchemy at its finest.
