We inherited my father-in-laws collection. I became interested in the coins and it has become a hobby for me now.

I got interested in coins from my grandmother when I was young. I recently got back into it after stumbling upon a few Mercury dimes I had left from my childhood collection. I fell back in love with the design so just today went to my first (small) coin show. So far have 56 of my slots filled in the Dansco.

I am infatuated with the history behind some coins. Not knowing who touched them or what they may have been used to purchase allows the mind to wander and create some fun ideas. The art work on many coins is striking :) I really enjoy collecting world coins.

As a criminal I like coins because no serial numbers for the police to track. No need to find a fence for stolen jewelry. Stealing cars takes up to much room and they too have those serial numbers. And remember when robbing a bank, they never put those die packs in with coins, only paper money. And too a person can always melt down all the coins they have in case the law is getting close.
Why do I collect coins? I really have no idea. Started when I was a kid and have been continuing for over 140 years now.

or - when one becomes too old and worn - hide them deep in the backyard to prepare an interesting hoard for a future coin collector
