I can get my hands on $2500 in Presidential dollar rolls. These all came from the bank, straight from the mint. None have been opened. My dad bought several rolls per year every year they were minted, I don't know if they are all the same mint mark or different, or if there are different marks. He put them in a safe where they have sat untouched. Mom does not want them (dad past away), I have told her to take to the bank and cash in.
Should I get them and open them? Are there any known errors, etc that would make any of them collectable? Any chance they are worth more than $1? I have asked some coin shops if they would buy them for more than face value and have been told by every one of them, take to the bank.
I plan on it if I can still get my hands on them. They are 1k miles away, trying to contact mom to see if she took my advice or still has them. I won't be that way til probably fall, it's a long time to wait... LOL
Yea, I think with that much weight, it is no way worth it, esp. when they will be sitting there when I drag my camper that direction sometime this year.
I have recently been looking through dollar rolls for errors. Get the CherryPickers Guide before you get them from your Mom. That will help you identify which rolls to focus on. Then get a good light and a loupe and have fun. I would be interested in the years 2005-2010. If you come through WV with them, give me a shout.
Thanks! I will check out that book and web site. Soooooo much to learn/read, I might get done before the end of the decade, IF no one adds more to it. :-)
