Mike , correct me if I"m wrong but this would be the steps that created this coin.
Starting assumption is rev die is anvil and obv is hammer.
1. Planchet is fed in and struck normally but not ejected from the collar. 2. Second planchet is fed in on top of already struck cent and is struck creating a full obv brockage. 3. The obv brockage sticks to the obv die and the first cent is ejected from the press. 4. The stuck brockage continues striking cents and in the process spreads out and forms a die cap. 5. Then this planchet was fed in and was struck between the rev die and the now expanded and distorted brockage die cap.
